Guide to Being an Author in Refractories Applications and News
The core purpose of Refractories Applications and News is to transmit current information ranging from technical tips to full-blown treatments of technology, which will enable users, and installers of refractories to make optimal use of them. Refractories Applications will not focus in any particular area of refractories but will lean in the direction of the largest number of people with need to know. Most of the content will come from producers of products, raw materials and services to all segments of industry.
The articles will focus principally on where and how refractories are being used in new applications. The emphasis will be on providing information to the reader so they can be alerted to the state-of-the-art of readily available starting materials, products, installation and other services. The authors will be lab engineers, process engineers, applications engineers and installers and other experts. Few of the articles will be of a basic, or even an applied, research nature as they do not fit the template of "results and methods available now."
Articles of an updating nature will also be solicited. Updating could be completed research (e.g. current states of knowledge in generic areas like corrosion, thermal shock, mechanical testing, etc.). Most of the updating content should be related to remediation, standards and testing, safety and recycling.
Authors who need assistance with formatting, figures, and photos will be able to get help from the Refractories Group at UMR. We anticipate that many of the papers will come initially from people in job-site situations who have not been active in writing articles for publication.
Beyond the core content, we will publish material of a "whats happening now" nature. We are soliciting copy on all of the following categories:
Profiles of companies will be featured from time to time. Companies who have appropriate materials available are urged to submit them to UMR or contact the editor.
When submitting articles for publication, material should be typed in Microsoft Word, Arial 10pt font. Tables and graphs should also be prepared in Microsoft PC compatible format. Any photographs should be in tif or eps format with a resolution of 300 dpi and compatible with Photoshop PC. It must be submitted via email to Mary Lee.
